Is The IPhone 4 Worth Buying?

By Mark Walters

Since it was launched in 2007, more than 50 million iPhones have been sold - an unprecedented number in the cell phone industry. It has broadened horizons to what cell phones are capable of and what they are used for. The iPhone 4 is claimed be the phone that will define the next generation of cell phones. So, does it live up to the hype?

Most noticeable is the new screen. The "Retina" is a 3.5-inch IPS, LCD display with a robust resolution of 960 by 640 pixels and 326 pixels per inch. What this means to the consumer is clearer images due to the highest resolution available on any cell phone that has been produced to date.

The annoying low battery alert will be heard far less often with the extended battery. The battery life equals seven hours of talk time (300 hours of standby), which is 40% more than the iPhone 3G. The iPhone 4 utilizes the same processor as the iPad. The processor equals or betters that of any other phone on the market and the difference is noteworthy.

The operating system's previous moniker of iPhone OS 4.0 has been trimmed to the sleek iOS 4. Best of all, it now features the ability to multitask. Having to sacrifice listening to your favorite tunes while you check email is a thing of the past. The iPhone 4 also allows you to create folders in iTunes and it comes with the availability of iBooks. According to Apple, 1500 features have been enhanced in the creation of the new operating system, which is sure to please users.

The iPhone 4 comes with a 5 megapixel camera that, in addition to taking great pictures, can capture videos in HD at 720p. The camera is a great improvement on what was used for previous iPhones. Apple have clearly paid attention to the widespread 'complaints' that they received about it. A particularly cool new feature is 'Face Time', which allows you to make video calls - the first time this has been possible on smartphones.

Expect to pay around $200.00 for an iPhone 4 with a two year contract. Be sure to check various network operators and providers because the price will vary. You may be able to find it for less than $200.00. It is also better to resist the urge to run down to the store and buy the first phone you see. Check online and comparison shop. It does not take much time and may save you some significant cash.
