Get Started With Your First Cell Phone

By Stuart Thompson

Cell phones have suddenly become much more than just phones. For instance, when you look at the newest batch of AT&Tcellphones, you will find the more expensive ones have an array of gadgets and functions that seem like they come right out of Star Trek. The cheapest phones often come with cameras built in now and when you buy the more expensive models you get a whole lot more.

Expensive mobile phones now can cost upwards of $400 and they come with all sorts of gadgets. The newest ones come with mp3 players, gps capabilities, tons of games, much bigger screens, and of course the Internet. The question is: do people really need all these things or are they paying for things they never use. Just because everyone else is getting the higher end phones, it seems there is more demand caused by peer pressure.

Adding to the confusion of what to get for a first time buyer is the question of what phones are available for what carriers. If you like a certain phone, can you get it with any carrier or is it made only for a specific one? Some phones are made by a manufacturer specifically for a certain carrier. In that case, you will have to use that carrier if you want their phone. Other phones though, are available for all carriers and all cell phone plans. It should be noted that in the case of phones made specifically for one carrier, people have found ways to unlock them and use them with other carriers.

After you make you cell phone choice, if it is a phone that can be used with all carriers, you will have to make a decision of what one to go with and then what plan to get. The differences between plans can be confusing and it seems the salesperson will always try to up sell you and get you to pay for more than you need. It is hard for a first time buyer to navigate all the options and figure out what they truly need and not pay more.

First time buyers of cell phones have a lot of decisions to make and sometimes it can be a bit overwhelming. There is a lot of competition between phone carriers and manufacturers for your dollar and they spend a lot in advertising to try to gain your loyalty. You must figure out what you want and need ahead of time so that you dont succumb to the pressure that will be put on you to get more than you need.

How An IPhone App Caused A Modern Romance

By Andy Klein

I didn't have much luck with girls in high school. I remember a few really awkward dates. I was a nerdy kid. I like math, science, and reading. At my school, those definitely weren't the popular things to do.

A few weeks ago, I was having some coffee with friends when I saw this beautiful girl across the coffee shop. She was engrossed in her iPhone. I imagined her texting her boyfriend. Then she noticed me and smiled.

She probably saw me staring. Embarrassed, I looked away quickly, pretending to scan the room. One of my friends noticed me entranced by this girl, and encouraged me to say something to her. My palms started sweating and I wanted to get out of there. Talking to girls is just not my thing.

It might seem weird, but I snapped a picture of her with my iPhone. She was looking out the window, and I pretended to be fooling with my phone. I was in line to get more coffee, and got a really great angle with awesome lighting.

Later, I caught the bus to go home. I couldn't stop thinking about her. She was just so beautiful. You know how beauty, especially a beautiful girl, can really inspire you? Well, I just wanted to express how I felt about her. I had this creative urge, so I opened up this new app I got called Comic Genie.

Comic Genie is a neat little app that puts talk bubbles in any picture. It's like in a comic strip. I had downloaded it, but I hadn't gotten a chance to use it. Now was the perfect opportunity! I opened up the picture from my library so I could make it into a nice comic.

I stared at the picture for a while. A beautiful ray of sunlight surrounded her face. It was such a nice photo! After looking at it for a good five minutes, thinking about this beautiful girl, I noticed something really neat. A little bird had perched on the windowsill to sit next to the object of my desire! The shot was perfect. I made the bird look like it was talking right at her.

I got a really great idea right at that moment. I double-tapped to add a talk bubble to the picture, and typed some speech. "I wish I could sit with you, pretty bird." It was corny, I know. But I was in a corny mood. What happened next could only be conceivable in this age of total connectedness.

I take a lot of photos with my iPhone, which is why I bought the Comic Genie app. I wanted to make the photos more interesting. I like being creative, so I thought I could add a personal touch. You know? I just like sending people stuff I made myself.

When I got home, I synced to my computer and downloaded the photos off of it. Then, out of habit, I uploaded all of the photos to Facebook. I was still in a dream-like state, and not really thinking. Who uploads photos of strangers to their Facebook?

The next day, I checked my email and noticed I had a new friend request. There's nothing abnormal in that, but I opened up the profile and I saw that it was the girl from the coffee shop! She said "Nice comic! You're the guy from the coffee shop with the iPhone, right?"

Really, I was confused. How did she find me? I started thinking of all the possibilities, then I remembered that I uploaded my photos to Facebook. I took a deep breath. I check out her profile, and saw that we did have a friend in common. It was Alex, who kind of knows everybody. He had recognized her in the comic and tagged her face. She was notified and there you go!

I didn't know what to do, so I just accepted the request. She must have been logged in, since she started a chat with me right away. To keep the story short, I'll just say that she like shooting photos which was a relief since I had taken one without permission, and she wanted to get together. She said I was cute. We met at the same coffee shop. She was curious to know how I made the comic. She thought maybe I used Photoshop, but I showed her Comic Genie and she bought it, too. We wound up staying at the coffee shop all day, making comics and showing them to each other. It was so wonderful!

So that's how I met Julie, he prettiest girl in the world!

Which To Choose? A Netbook Or iPhone?

By Stevie W. Lowe

By now, everyone knows what an Apple iPhone is. In fact, with the new drop in price, everybody probably has an iPhone. The iPhone combines a phone, a music device, and a internet browsing device.

The iPhone definitely has some similarities to the family of netbooks. The question is, which is a better device? We will look at a few functions of each device.

Powering On

Both devices have a simple power on button and process. The iPhone takes around 20-25 seconds to power on and be ready for use. The netbook, if powered by the Linux operating system can be on and ready to use in around 15 seconds. Windows XP will take around 18-20 seconds to be ready for use. Winner: Netbook

Typing

Both devices have qwerty keyboards, however, neither device has the same keyboard as a normal desktop or laptop computer. The netbook has the edge when it comes to keyboard and typing. Its keyboard is around 80% of the size of a normal keyboard. The iPhone on the other hand has a small keyboard that can pretty much be typed on by two of your fingers. It is difficult to type, especially if you have a protective case on it. Winner: Netbook

Browsing The Internet

Apple safari as its limitations, but the version on the iPhone is more than adequate. Still, the Mozilla Firefox or Windows Internet Explorer are capable of viewing a lot more and it working. You can surf easier on netbooks, fill in forms quicker and open more windows. Winner is this category: Netbook

Portability Of The Device

As we all know, the iPhone is small enough to fit into a pocket. A netbook is not as small and usually needs a small laptop bag to be carried around. The iPhone easily runs away as winner of this category.

Cost

A netbook will usually cost around $200 - $300. Most netbooks will not ever cost more than $300. iPhones range in price with the cheapest version costing around $99 (if you are running on the AT&T network). If you are looking for an unlocked iPhone, they are usually costing buyers around $400 to $500. Winner: Netbook

Overall, the netbook is the better choice for people looking for a portable computer.

Get Started With Your First Cell Phone

Cell phones have suddenly become much more than just phones. For instance, when you look at the newest batch of AT&Tcellphones, you will find the more expensive ones have an array of gadgets and functions that seem like they come right out of Star Trek. The cheapest phones often come with cameras built in now and when you buy the more expensive models you get a whole lot more.

Cell phones now routinely cost in the hundreds of dollars and it seems people are willing to pay the price. As all your friends get the better phones, it seems the pressure to keep up with the Joneses has gotten the best of many people. Phones now come with so many other capabilities that it seems the only thing missing is the phaser option right out of Star Trek. The question is: do people really need all these gadgets and do they really use them all? Of course some people love all the newest technology and have to have it but do the masses really need so much?

There are many cell phone carriers to choose from as well as the many different cell phone choices. Are the phones made for Verizon the exact same as are made for the other carriers? Sometimes a cell phone maker will make a phone model that is exclusively for one carrier. Each carrier has a phone or two that you can only get if you sign up for their service. Most phones however, are made for all carriers and are the same phones. Of course, with those models that are made exclusively for one carrier, people have learned how to open them up and "unlock" them for all carriers. With modern technology, it is hard for the phone makers to make something that prevents people from altering it and using it for their competitors.

Even after making your choice of phones, you have another choice that can be confusing of what type of plan to get. If you are getting a phone that goes with all carriers, you will have to decide which one to go with. There are even many different plans within each carrier that all have different limits on minutes and other little variations. It is difficult for any first time buyer to know what they want or might need and the salesman will of course try to sell you more than you probably want to spend.

All in all, anyone looking to buy a cell phone for the first time has a lot of decisions to make. Advertising plays a big part in the decisions we make and the cell phone makers and carriers advertise like crazy. They all hope to get our business and lock us in to their plans and phones for as long as possible. It is our job to do the legwork first and make educated decisions of what to buy.

Download Videos To iPhone - Several Ways To Do It

By Davion Wong

Wouldn't it be nice to be able to download videos to iPhone? Imagine getting to watch your favorite videos again and again wherever you are. No need to hook yourself in front of your PC all day long. By downloading videos to your iPhone, you can have a grand time watching videos wherever you are.

It is not surprising to see people going gaga over Apple's baby. The iPhone comes with many features, after all. Yes, it's more than just your ordinary mobile phone. Your iPhone allows you to surf the internet, listen to music, play games, and watch your favorite videos, too. It's like hitting many birds with one stone.

The Apple iTune's store has plenty of iPhone video downloads you can choose from. However, you must first sign up for an account with iTunes before you can download videos and movies. Registration is fairly easy; you will not have difficulty getting your way in and around the site.

What iTunes does require you to do is to download the iTunes software because without it you will not be able to make video downloads to your iPhone. Through the iTunes software, you can transfer the files from the iTunes library to your PC and then you sync your iPhone with your PC to transfer the files to your iPhone.

Besides iTunes, there are other sites that allow you to download videos. YouTube is one site you can download videos from. In order to do this, you must download the YouTube to iPhone converter first. Don't worry, this isn't going to cost you anything, and the software is free of viruses and spyware.

With this software you can begin adding YouTube video links to a location of your choice. You also must convert the files to MP3 or MP4 format, the format that is compatible with your iPhone. Next, open your iTunes library and drag the converted files into it. Lastly, attach your iPhone to your PC to copy the files from PC to iPhone.

It is rather unfortunate that you cannot directly copy videos from the internet to your iPhone yet; but perhaps, in the future, this will no longer be impossible.

Go look at my blog to find out many other ways you can download videos to iPhone.
