Which To Choose? A Netbook Or iPhone?

By Stevie W. Lowe

By now, everyone knows what an Apple iPhone is. In fact, with the new drop in price, everybody probably has an iPhone. The iPhone combines a phone, a music device, and a internet browsing device.

The iPhone definitely has some similarities to the family of netbooks. The question is, which is a better device? We will look at a few functions of each device.

Powering On

Both devices have a simple power on button and process. The iPhone takes around 20-25 seconds to power on and be ready for use. The netbook, if powered by the Linux operating system can be on and ready to use in around 15 seconds. Windows XP will take around 18-20 seconds to be ready for use. Winner: Netbook

Typing

Both devices have qwerty keyboards, however, neither device has the same keyboard as a normal desktop or laptop computer. The netbook has the edge when it comes to keyboard and typing. Its keyboard is around 80% of the size of a normal keyboard. The iPhone on the other hand has a small keyboard that can pretty much be typed on by two of your fingers. It is difficult to type, especially if you have a protective case on it. Winner: Netbook

Browsing The Internet

Apple safari as its limitations, but the version on the iPhone is more than adequate. Still, the Mozilla Firefox or Windows Internet Explorer are capable of viewing a lot more and it working. You can surf easier on netbooks, fill in forms quicker and open more windows. Winner is this category: Netbook

Portability Of The Device

As we all know, the iPhone is small enough to fit into a pocket. A netbook is not as small and usually needs a small laptop bag to be carried around. The iPhone easily runs away as winner of this category.

Cost

A netbook will usually cost around $200 - $300. Most netbooks will not ever cost more than $300. iPhones range in price with the cheapest version costing around $99 (if you are running on the AT&T network). If you are looking for an unlocked iPhone, they are usually costing buyers around $400 to $500. Winner: Netbook

Overall, the netbook is the better choice for people looking for a portable computer.
