Sending Massive Text Messages to Customers Through SMS

By Doreen Simpson

SMS messaging is the new email marketing of our day. Eight years ago there were these young people called mailers that figured out ways to gather large email subscriber lists. The email subscriber list system is basically like siphoning traffic away from Google to hit up later. There are many websites that do nothing more than take down potential customer email addresses to send auto responder messages later on. Unfortunately many of these email marketers are seeing only 7 percent open rates from those they send to.

Email lists are generally legal spam where people actually opt-in to receiving the message two times before the mailer will even thinking about sending something to them. The double opt-in protects the consumer and the mailer. This opt-in process prevents spam but nonetheless we receive a ton of email these days and can only read so much of it. Now make way for SMS or text messaging. Most people do not think of text messaging as spam.

People carry their cell phones with them everywhere. When a message is received the person hears an alarm, stops and reads the message. Very rarely do people not open a test message. When you think about it most people especially in small towns do not have even one single business sending them text messages. Local businesses stand to benefit the most from SMS messaging services. Consider a restaurant case study to make my point.

Let us say you have a restaurant called Little Italy and they have a good strong loyal customer base. Many of these customers come back again and again and bring family and friends. If you are like me you forget where to eat and sometimes eat at a different place that isn't even that good because you just do not know any better. Here is where SMS text messaging comes in. Little Italy could plan some very compelling auto responder messages that send out SMS texts to cell phone subscribers whenever they are making a special dish, have live music, or will be preparing a special Valentines day event. The point is that SMS email for businesses can drive traffic back into a local businesses doors like nobody's business.

As you may see by now this whole process of getting someones cell number to text message is not all that hard. Once you have it so long as you respect texting boundaries and offer beneficial messages our customers will love you even more. Contests and sweepstakes always work well to get people on your list. Your customers are not actually having to pay for anything but they receive so much more so for many giving a way a cell number to someone they already trust to put food in their mouths is no big deal. In summary SMS business email messages are the new email marketing and this is just stating. Do not wait to start building an SMS list as this thing will be big in just a couple of years.
