The Advance of Mobile Contracts

By Rob Jackson

Those who have put some thought into it are probably well aware that mobile phone deals and mobile phone contracts have changed over the years. These changes were necessary considering the huge leaps that mobile phones have managed to make. For instance it has been noted that mobile phones have gained more advanced features over the years, and this is related to the progression of hardware.

In the beginning, mobile phones were more along the lines of cordless handsets in both size and form factor. They performed their basic function, but advanced features were never available. Between 1990 and 2000 however, mobile phone contracts and mobile phones themselves became a bit more powerful.

Let's take the minute restriction for example. In the old days, when cellular phones were large gray boxes, people barely made phone calls due to the expense. These phones were seen more as a status symbol or perhaps even as an emergency call device. As phones became more commonplace however, it became necessary for a reworking of contracts.

During the second generation (2G) of cellular phones it became common for phones to include texting and talk, though texting was not usually unlimited. As the demand for texting became obvious, it turned into a primary function and therefore unlimited texting plans were introduced for a monthly fee. In addition to texting, the second generation off cellular phones also saw the introduction of no-contract cell phones.

At one point it would have been impossible for an individual without a decent credit rating to obtain a cellular phone without paying a large deposit, but prepaid cellular phones made this concept a bit simpler. These days anyone can obtain a mobile phone without needing to sign and mobile phone contracts.

Eventually mobile phone deals would involve internet capable phones and the phones to support this capability. The third generation cellular phones have been outfitted with larger displays and full keyboards for the purpose of better internet access. As you can see, mobile phone contracts have become increasingly more complicated, and as such they have become more beneficial to the customer.

With simpler contracts and an ability to choose the elements of your plan, you will find that you can have virtually anything in regards to cellular capabilities so long as you are willing to pay the price. On the subject of price, it has come down quite a bit in the past few years seeing as more people are able to take advantage of the various mobile deals. Keep this in mind as you are shopping, and understand that you can obtain a phone and contract for virtually any price so long as you are willing to do the footwork.
