Using An Apple iPhone in Canada

Many people have approached me and ask, "Where did you buy your iPhone in Canada?" And my answer to them is, "I didn't buy my iPhone in Canada! I bought it from Seattle, WA, and unlocked the iPhone myself!? Yes, it is true folks. Canucks are the one who purchased majority of the iPhones in Canada since they went down to the States to purchase them. They pay someone to unlock it for them or unlocked the iPhone in Canada themselves after they purchase it.

What Mobile Networks Work With An iPhone in Canada?

In Canada, there are two GSM networks. We have Rogers. The second is Fido which basically is owned by Rogers.. These two are the networks you can use your iPhone in Canada. Your iPhone in Canada, when you hook it up won't be difficult process. Getting your hands on an iPhone is the very first thing. Before inserting your Rogers or Fido SIM card, you have to "jailbreak" (iTunes activation has been bypassed) and "unlocked" (opened to be used with any GSM network; ie--Fido, Rogers, etc.), and just pop the SIM card tray out of the top of the iPhone with a paperclip to insert the SIM card. Then turn you phone back on and there, you will now have a working iPhone in Canada. Although new iPhones like the iPhone firmware 1.1.2 cannot be software unlocked at the moment in Canada. In unlocking these iPhones you have to use a TurboSIM method, which requires a slight modification of your SIM card which then fits into a "tray" that slides into your iPhone. Your iPhone is being tricked with this "tray" allowing it to be used with any GSM network in Canada (or the world!) What Features Work on the iPhone in Canada?

With your "jailbreak" and "unlocked" iPhone in Canada, every single feature still works. "Visual Voice mail", is the only feature that does not work though it is only available to AT&T subscribers in the USA. All other features such as YouTube, WiFi, EDGE, Camera, Weather, Stocks, iPod, Calculator, Mail, Google Maps, SMS, work with your iPhone in Canada. Your SMS voice mail notifications may not work with Rogers or Fido that would depend on your firmware that you are running. A 3rd party application can be installed by Users on firmware version 1.1.1 that will allow for the iPhone receiving SMS voice mail notifications. Also available are 3rd party applications to send MMS messages, install games, and other fun programs! There are endless possibilities!
