Use The Kindle's Benefits on Your iPhone With the Kindle iPhone App

By Reagan Miers

In this article you are going to see how the Amazon Kindle can be used in conjunction with your iPhone. You can now download a free application that you can use to read ebooks on your iPhone. This announcement has seen many thousands of users rushing to download the application and try it out. Also, many people have been so impressed with this technology that iPhone users have decided to buy a Kindle 2 themselves. This gives you an idea of the power inside this little application.

I will now describe exactly how the Kindle iPhone application works. In reality, it's like having your Kindle 2 with you all the time, except inside your iPhone. It's pretty cool really. If you like to take your Kindle with you when you leave the house, then this is a way to stop carrying it around. Now you can simply view all your ebooks on your iPhone in a much more discreet manner. This is perfect if you just have a little free time and want to do some reading.

Applicable for both the iPhone and iPod touch, the Kindle for iPhone app has even taken the effort to make reading from the iPhone a pleasant experience. Given that the iPhone is a compact device, the readability is still great with 5 font sizes to choose from. Plus, going through pages is easily done with just a mere swipe of the screen right to left, or back. For bookmarking pages, finding the table of contents, going to the beginning or a specific location, and looking at the image cover, a couple of taps is all it takes as well.

The other great thing is that you can access your ebooks without needing to have your Amazon Kindle with you. With the Kindle iPhone application, you can just log into your Amazon account and download any of your own ebooks right to your iPhone. With the Kindle's Whispersync technology, you can also start from the position that you left of from on either device. All you need to do is ensure that the two devices are in sync before you stop reading. This will ensure that you start at the right page, next time you want to read.

With the iPhone, you also get the full color version of the ebooks you want to read, with the LCD screen. This is an improvement on the Kindle's grey screen. The only thing the iPhone can't do is replace the Kindle as a fully functional reading device. You still need the Kindle for long reading sessions as it has e-paper technology, a wide screen and superior readability overall. This would hurt your eyes on the iPhone.

Although it is a very exiting addition, it does come with a few downsides. The first one is that you cannot buy books from Amazon or browse titles with the iPhone. Also, you can only use the application to read ebooks. No newspapers or magazines can be used yet. On top of this, the dictionary feature cannot be used either. Although these are just small drawbacks, they are something to consider if you want to use the application.
