Iphone Breakthrough: Users Now Have Java Based Flash

By Christina Woods

Recently an open source version java program has been created that can run flash by using JavaScript instead of Adobe's flash plug-in. If this works correctly after it improves, this is huge news to mobile phone users like those using the iPhone.

Up until now flash use to take up too many resources to run on mobile phones. Phones usually have You-tube functionality but it only works on certain websites and its not the same as browsing it on the original page. Flash based sites wouldn't display if you were surfing the internet on a mobile phone. Mainly because a lot of the menus on the site will not load making it really difficult to use the internet on a phone since they are made with flash.

The ability to use flash on the iPhone since it can run java will most likely change quite a few things.

First of all, if you can run flash, you can also run flash games. Not every game out there will fit properly on the iPhone's screen resolution but thousands of them will. This means that users will be able to play many of the games that computer users do.

This could impact the App Store quite a bit. Many developers have left the iPhone platform looking for a more broad way of coding for phones that fits more platforms. Being able to code in JavaScript or flash will open up the possibilities of making many web applications for the iPhone and others allowing users to choose from competitive software choices either from the App Store or other developers.

I'm almost certain that this technology will not develop as fast as the HTML5 standards that is going to be used to replace a lot of the features that flash does for browsers.
