Last week my friend had put up a status of Facebook, 'I finally got an iPhone'. This friend had been saving for this smart-phone from her pocket-money ever since it was launched in 2007. And this was not just any multimedia enabled smart-phone, it was Steve Job's dream realised by people at Apple Inc.
One of the most distinguishing features that iPhone had back in 2007 were the apps. These applications were developed by third parties. There functionality ranged from social networking sites to GPRS, and celebrities to sports.
According to stats there are about two hundred thousands apps available for iPhone. But there is no stopping here. Ever season depending on the occasion the third party developers come up with bigger and better smart apps to suite the needs of the users.
This Ramadan which is a holy month in the Islamic calendar again there are so many new apps that will make the observance of this month smooth for the Muslims. For prayer reminders there is the iPray app and to tell the no. of pages a Muslim has read on his iPhone there is the iQuran app. The 'Find Mecca' and 'Find Mosque' apps aid the Muslims in on a journey for their place to worship.
And iphones apps are not only limited to Islamic themes when talking about religion. For every occasion and festival in other religions the developers come up with different sorts of applications. The most regular ones that can be seen are the Christian sacred text, the Bible and the Hindu scripture the Gita.
One of the most astonishing apps that I came across in a while is the Descent. It is basically a freefall calculator. According to the developers it can calculate the time it would take to freefall to the earth most accurately. It would also be able to calculate the speed you would be travelling before hitting the earth's surface.
Road raging is highly ranked free app. This is where you have to amass fuel and compete with other vehicles on the way. The highly addictive and thought-provoking strategy games are also very popular at the App Store.
These are just some of the apps that make the iPhone such a cool gadget to use. I will call up my friend to check how much she is addicted to her iPhone. May be a can borrow it for few days this time I go around her house ;).
