Top Video Features of the HTC Evo 3D

By Gareth Jale

The upcoming EVO 3D is a lot like 2D, which would be about a year old when the 3D officially hits the shelves. HTC has made improvements and upgrades across the board, but it is an Evo at its core, just a little more powerful, and of course, with 3D. HTC also managed to somehow keep the weight of the phone identical to its predecessor, which is very impressive considering the technological improvements. One change we've had were mixed feelings about the increased width. On one hand, the Evo 3D is certainly easier to manipulate, especially if you have big paws, but on the other, accessories are incompatible with this device and vice versa. In other words, we'll all have to buy a new case and a new screen protector, at the very least.

The neatest thing about HTC's 3D implementation is that it integrates 3D into almost every aspect of your phone without the need for the glasses. You'll access your own home screen in 3D, and applications that utilize core UI elements will be available in 3D as well. Many other apps, of course, will not, and for that, the phone has a built-in 2D mode as well. The early 3D screens on smart phones had issues displaying 2D properly, but the Evo 3D does it without a hitch. It even compares up to your mobile phone.

A big reason why there's such a huge demand for 3D smart phones right now is the reinvigorated 3D craze. Nearly every blockbuster is in 3D these days, and when the movies come to DVD and other formats, such as those supported by your Evo, they're in 3D too. Some 3D players have a limitation where they can't display the 3D properly while seeking through the video. This can make the feature very hard to use, especially on smaller screens. This phone doesn't have this problem, and it even allows you to video browse with pinch and zoom mechanics while maintaining the 3D display.

The EVO 3D phone has a built-in 3D camera that allows you to shoot 3D videos. Anticipating the rise in popularity of this medium, Google has already set up a three-D version of their website. You can easily post videos directly from your phone to different services and you can watch other videos posted by different users. This smart phone also has pinch and zoom features for easy manipulation, and the only limitation is the video quality.

The bottom line is that the Evo's stereoscopic 3D effect is as good as we've seen on a smart phone, and HTC has even significantly minimized some of the most common problems, such as poor viewing angles. In addition, the integration of pinch-zoom into 3D display is a great new feature and we consider it a very convenient feature for anyone who want to view their videos.
