By Bradley Kyle

There are major two types of smartphones sold nowadays: touchscreen phones and phones that have QWERTY keyboard. The QWERT cellphones are those that have a full QWERTY keyboard in the main panel or under a sliding panel. Meanwhile, touch screen phones do not use a manual keyboard and all its functions are done through the active points of the screen that requires pressing. However, there are also available touch screen models that have navigation function keys. One example of a touch screen smartphone is the iPhone by Apple and the Blackberry by Research in Motion is an example of a QWERTY smartphone. Surely, Blackberry is not the first and the only one if the QWERTY smartphones segment but it is regarded as the most popular.

Despite of its elegant-looking design, touch screen smartphones pose some challenges when it comes to entering huge chunks of data, using the phone for instant messaging, or writing long strings of SMS. The touch screen smartphone may have a stylish look but it is far from being considered a serious business gadget. Without the presence of manual control buttons, people would have a hard time writing e-mail messages, sort out Powerpoint presentations, and edit Word documents or Excel spreadsheet files.

There are other QWERTY smartphones that use Microsoft's Windows Mobile OS including Pantech, HTC, and Palm. For features such as interface and operation, users of the PC Windows will see some familiarity with the Windows Mobile OS. Also, smartphones that utilize the Mobile Window OS are really meant for convenient browsing of the web, better use of the e-mail, management of calendar and tasks, and editing and viewing of Office documents. According to many, phones such as these do not easily crash. In any basic smartphone, it normally includes entertainment features such as MP3, video player, and digital camera. Often, both QWERTY cell phones and touch screen smartphones have these features included save for some older models.

There are advantages when you use touch screen mobile phones. The advantages for using these smartphones include memory and battery longevity. There are some touch screen smartphones that you can buy that includes 8 GB or 16 GB memory depending on the specifications. Majority of QWERTY cell phones have lesser memory than that and even less ability to expand its external memory via MicroSD card slots.

Buyers will also have a hard time looking for the right MicroSD card in just about any electronic store. In terms of battery life, smartphones that are touch screen-based normally last 6 hours of Wi-Fi browsing and 5 hours talk time. You can even just leave it for 300 hours in standy mode, while QWERTY phones do not really last that long.
