By David T. Hersch

There have been a lot of privacy concerns that has been presented against Facebook that they should advice their users not to upload private personal information in their accounts that my well be used by some criminals.

In the midst of these issues, Facebook management has again decided to add another service that may well add to the privacy concerns once more. It's a service that can be quite helpful for some people, but can also be used for criminal purposes.

The service is called "Places" where Facebook account owners can register their mobile phones with GPS capabilities like the iPhone and connect it with their Facebook accounts and where ever the go with their mobile phone, their FB account will tell their exact location any where in the planet.

This is both a useful and fun service at the same time for close friends and relatives who would want to stay connected all the time. It can help businesses to track specific employees in the field as well.

Today, we do not yet have complete information as to how will Facebook earn money by providing free service like this, but obviously it is a attempt to compete with one of the Internets leading location detecting companies like Google.

While using this service wisely can be fun and useful, there are in the other hand a real danger once the FB service is not used carefully. It can be taken advantage by people who created a FB account so they can add hundreds of friends but having a very dark purpose. With your data not securely stored instead of a friend tracking your location, it'll be a psycho killer who will be following your every move.

FB users are therefore advised to use their accounts wisely and to never upload sensitive private information you feel could be dangerous of evil people could get a hold of it. In using Places, extra caution is needed to make sure the setting is to allow only your close friends and relatives to see your real time location and not some nut on the Internet and you don't even realize you are being followed already.

The iPhone is one mobile phone that has GPS capabilities that can be connected with FB once the service is already available.

And as owners of an iPhone we know that when you purchased iPhone insurance to cover our expensive mobile phone, we are protecting our selves from possible financial loss in case our iPhone was damaged, stolen or misplaced. This is the key important purpose of iPhone insurance.

But once you have shared sensitive personal data in FB and share your exact location every time to everyone, it may sound to say scary but you may want to get some kind of insurance for your self as well because there is a big chance that you have just put yourself in great danger.

But fortunately, Facebook does allow a prudent user to be able to edit and choose who the right persons only that can see your location using Places in the even you do decide to register your iPhone and use this new and intriguing service.
