Ringtones for iPhone

By John Dickleson

So you want to download ringtones for iPhone? Well, dear sir, you've come to the right place for information. The iPhone is getting ridiculously popular and smashing all consumer sales records in the mobile phone market. Add to that the proliferation of apps, and the iPhone is an absolute juggernaut.

With the absolute glut of iPhone on the international market, it's not shocking that the market for related accessories is growing just as quickly. While iPhone sales are worth billions every year, apps and related utilities are probably worth tens of billions in sales. Ringtones are only a small piece of the puzzle. Apple made a genius like move in making it so that apps and accessories had to be made specifically for their phone. So you can't just buy any generic accessories or software and expect it to work. Because of this, developers and manufacturers are creating themes, apps, wallpapers, and more at an almost alarming rate.

Perhaps one of the biggest markets is people who want to download ringtones for iPhone. Why is this the case? Because if you have a ringtone that is noticeable, people will hear it and then watch as you oh-so-coolly whip out your phone and answer it like the stylish modern person you are.

Everyone will see it and be jealous. And, as I said, the best way to flaunt the fact that you have an iPhone is to have a bitchin' ringtone that demands attention.

It's very easy to find ringtones on the internet. One caution that I would give would be to be careful of where you get them, though, because some can contain viruses. There are actually some options to get songs for free. For instance, you can take a song that's in your library and simply set it to be your ringtone. The only part of this that sucks is that the ringtone will start at the very beginning of the song, and sometimes you don't want that. So, you have to download some kind of song editor to snip the section of the song that you actually want to play.

Rather than going through all of that rigamarole though, it's often easier to just pony up the $.99 or whatever and download paid ringtones. Tons of places online offer these for sale. They're often completely legal, although you'll want to double-check. Artists agree to allow them to be offered for free since it's such great exposure for them.

What you do is to download ringtones to your PC or Mac, and then load them (or Sync them) to your phone through iTunes. In fact, there is an app available in the app store that will allow you to download songs directly from a website and make it a ringtone while bypassing iTunes. How awesome is that?

If you dig through the app store, you'll actually find a horde of apps for this purpose - for making it easier to get 3rd party ringtones into your phone without going through iTunes. I highly suggest that you download one today!
