Comparing Different Types of Headsets for the HTC Evo Shift

By Gareth Jale

Wherever you go today in the United States, the chances of finding someone using a smart phone grow higher with each passing year. The reasons for why they have become so popular so quickly are not hard to understand: they are relatively affordable and allow you to do so much more than regular cell phones, which most people already had before they ventured into the smart phone market. Using a smart phone, it's extremely easy to keep in touch with your local and worldwide news and of course, your friends and family. To this extent, it can be handy to have a headset to allow you to talk more efficiently when you are using your smart phone as a phone. However, there are some advantages Bluetooth wireless headsets offer over the traditional earphone headset, and these advantages will be discussed in the context of smart phones such as the HTC Evo Shift.

When it comes to the advantages of using a Bluetooth headset over regular earphones, the first reasons put forth by people who have tried both tend to cluster around the fact that Bluetooth headsets don't require you to use your hands to operate them, and that they don't require wires to connect them to the smart phones themselves. Both of these advantages might not seem too meaningful if you aren't currently using a smart phone to read this article while driving, but if you are ever in a situation where you need to speak to someone while you are on the road, it can be so dreadfully difficult trying to coordinate the conversation along with your driving if you need to hold the phone to your ear.

Traditional earphones help solve this problem to some degree, but they bring with them the added challenge of navigating with the cord dangling down from one or both ears while you drive. This is distracting at best and a genuine safety hazard at worst, as the cable can easily become wrapped around the steering wheel as you drive, turning the car's trajectory and sending you headlong into oncoming traffic or over a bridge if you are unfortunate enough to be traveling across one.

It's extremely clear that there are many safety advantages of using a Bluetooth headset. A number of states and local governments have begun to realize this as well, and as a result, have begun to put in place measures to restrict the use of cell phones and smart phones while driving unless they are used with headsets.

However, due to the downfalls of using headsets with wires, some states are even passing laws that forbid the use of wired headsets in conjunction with smart phones; you will need to use wireless headsets, which effectively means you will need to use Bluetooth headsets.

As you can see, this is probably one of the more useful accessories you can purchase if you are in the market for that particular smart phone. In general, you might also want to look into a screen protector as well as a case. These will help keep your phone safer.
