How the iPod changed the face of the MP3 Industry

By Jim McIntyre

It is hard keeping up with technology but one thing is for sure, if you have not already gone digital then you are being left behind. It seems like only last week that CD and DVD were the breakthrough format, but now in an age of MP3 and digitally formatted music and video it is time to look at where we are heading and who is best aligned to take us there.

These portable video players make it easier for you to take the A/V excitement out from your house onto the road. Portable video players are getting smaller, lighter weight and also at the same time more advanced.

Without doubt the most advanced media player at this time is the series from Apple with the range of free songs for your iPod seemingly endless. And that's just the start of what the i series offers.

Portable DVD players are still a big seller, and this is mainly because of the price drop as Apple iTunes and other media companies have taken over the market.

Portable DVD players were a hit also because you could plug them into an external monitor. The same is true with nearly all portable digital music and media players but this time around the quality is a hundred times better and you can put your entire video collection on one player.

Some portable players are designed specifcally to be used in the car, and now a days this is the only type that sells usually, although with nearly all new cars having iPod connectivity it is surprising they still sell so well. I guess its because they are cheap and that's why people buy them and do not buy itunes or iPod music.

Now of course this has all changed because with media going digital it meant you could store a whole lot of data on one small player. And it is not restricted to just video and music. You can store files, photos, pretty much everything.

It's almost like a portable computer when you look at its functionality and what it can do. It also means the quality is always top notch and no more worrying about jumping discs.

Regardless of the type of portable music player you choose, and whether its the lates iPod from Apple or an older portable DVD player, you should always consider purchasing the headphones separate. A good quality pair of headphones can make a huge difference to the output of sound and video that you get.

It doesn't matters which type of portable you choose but you should consider buying a pair of headphones separately. Most of the portable players include headphones but you could get better sound by replacing them with an inexpensive pair.

And if you are used to a great sound at the time when you watch DVD movies on your player, then you should look around for a set of Dolby Digital headphones and you can enjoy impressive surround sound from your portable DVD player.
