By Isaura Downey

When cell phones were first offered to the public, it was the novelty of the idea that was the largest draw. They could do nothing more than send and receive calls and quite often they did not do that very well. Calls were easily interrupted and the devices themselves were large and not easily transported.

These telephones are undoubtedly one of the most advanced products ever known to man. The leaps and bounds in advancement was seen almost daily. What was new one day, became old the next day. They have become so small many of them are just a bit larger than a credit card. The installation of transmission towers made calls quick and easy. The devices had caught on, and their interest continues to grow today.

The most sought after were the pay as you go phones. They were easily affordable and provided communication to just about anywhere in the world. Yet, this was merely the beginning stages of a whole new way of life.

This form of mobile communication was the seed from which the modern day version springs. With technological advances beyond one's wildest dreams, the smart phone was born. It was born and educated to a degree never before thought possible. One advancement led quickly to another. The thought of luxury faded away and the common man could now make use of this telephone.

The world is inundated with the smart phone. Any number of them are now available to the consumer. Even within the same companies, endless programs are offered to suit specific needs. The cell phone that simply allows you to converse is nearly non-existent. To add to the allure of the smart phone, most companies now offering the family plan, whereby one monthly price allows an entire family to stay in touch with each other at no additional charge.

From the workplace; to college classes; and in daily life, these small units performed wonders. They could take pictures, deposit and withdraw bank funds, and make surfing the web a snap. We no longer had to travel the world because the world was coming to us.

There are numerous usage plans in place for the consumer. There are still those who want nothing more than cell phones to carry in case of an emergency. This would be the most basic plan option. The most expensive would offer every type of application adaptable to that device. Much of it depends solely on what the individual wants his phone to do.
