Recommended Android Apps

By Timothy Owen

Android devices are becoming an increasingly popular choice for mobile users worldwide. As such, the app market is no longer completely saturated by Apple's App Store. Android apps have become increasingly sophisticated in the past months, largely due to the fact that the Android app market is fiercely competitive. We've pulled out a few must-have apps. We enjoy them and we think you will too.

Firstly, for anyone that uses Facebook, we recommend you download the app to your mobile device. The application is delivered in a much simpler form than you might be used to on your computer, but all of the main functions are still available. You can view photos, comment on statuses and chat live with friends. In many ways, the application is much more useable than the main version we use on our computers. The simplicity is somewhat of a relief.

We are big fans of Google Sky Maps. Using the mobile device's built in orientation tool, Google's technology can work out and display on your screen, the star constellations as they would be seen from your position. On a clear night, you can match your screen's representation of the sky to the stars that are visible, thus working out the constellations. IN no time you'll be able to differentiate Orion's Belt from the Big Dipper.

Google Sky Maps is well worth a look. This sophisticated app uses your mobile device's built in orientation tool to pinpoint your location and work out which direction you are facing. When you hold the phone up to the sky, Google's technology will work out which star constellations you should be able to see. On a clear night, you can match up the picture on your screen to the sky in front of you. With this, you'll be able to work out where the big dipper is and you'll know for sure which the North Star is.

Now you can watch your favourite BBC television programmes and listen to BBC radio shows on your mobile device. The app requires a Wi-Fi connection to operate, but it is a great way of catching up on the latest episode of EastEnders and listening to live radio broadcasts.
