I haven't had much success with car mounts for either the HTC Hero or Droid Incredible, but the Arkon has been the best I've tried so far and is inexpensive compared to others. I've used it in both a Honda CR-V and Toyota Yaris. I was looking forward to the Vent Mount, hooked onto the vent no problem. Two weeks later one of the clips where you insert it into the vent broke off.
So that makes it useless for ANY of the purposes for which it is sold. I am close to giving up on any vent mount due to all the problems they have.
I purchased this mount hoping to use my vent instead of the suction cup because I wanted to use a phone-mount that I could remove easily in its entirety. In my experience suction cups don't stay in place if they are regularly removed and re-installed.
With the large screen of the Evo, I finally ditched my Garmin, and I'm using my phone as a GPS. This mount is perfect for the phone. The Vent Holder didn't fit one of my cars but it comes with a flat disk that can be secured to your dash if you don't like the window mount. I bought this item because I wanted a vent mount as that is the best position for me to control my HTC EVO 3D from the driver's seat.
It's a great product! Not as strong as windshield mount for Garmin GPS.
Feel this will someday be the failure point. Highly recommended, especially over a phone specific/proprietary holder! I have found that the piece that sticks in your AC Vents is useless in my car, but the windshield mount works great just like a GPS would. I love it because it opens wide enough to fit my Thunderbolt with the Otterbox case on it.
You're saving more than enough money on this awesome mount/cradle to get the beanbag too. I spent like $25 for both and that was with shipping. For me, it's not a big issue. Quality is at par with my expectations. I emailed Arkon, and got a very fast response (within a day.) They shipped me out a replacement suction cup. They never asked me for a receipt, although they did request some pictures of the unit. I use the vent mount. My only complaint is that the clips tend to damage/scratch the vents. It's exactly what I needed, has some configurable parts that can be moved about, can be resized to fit various phone shapes, has various locking mechanisms and nice ball-joint parts that make it adjustable to almost however you want it. For how little it cost me, it was well worth the money. I wanted something that would hold my Droid, which has the hard case around it. This works great.
