The Benefits of the MicroSD Card for Mobile Gaming

By Gareth Jale

One of the most obvious advantages with a microSD card for a smart phone is to store game data outside of the phone. Depending on the kinds of games you play, it is easy to rack up a lot of scores or a lot of memory or simply a lot of save states. You can store all of your game data into the built-in memory of your phone, but if you were to do so, you put yourself in the danger of losing this data if something unfortunate were to happen to your smart phone.

Suppose your mobile phone got hacked, or suppose it simply fell down a well or a storm drain. If you lost all of your game data, you'd probably have to start all over from the beginning. That doesn't sound like something most gamers would like to do, and this is why the majority of gamers who invest in a microSD card will use it as a way to store their vital information outside of their smart phone. Beyond storing the data, you can also utilize an external microSD card to store full games.

Most of this will depend on the sizes of the games you're interested in storing, but there are a lot of arcade games out there that are not that big, so you can store as many as you want on your microSD card. It is also handy to have one of these cards for backups that are not related to your games but still important, although this is going to depend on what else you have stored on your smart phone and on what you can afford to lose.

That being said, another great advantage with a microSD card is that you can take your game from your phone to a computer. You can share games with other people if you wish and this is the ability that's granted to you with removable media. Naturally, if you paid for your game and your friends have not, you might not want to share it with them, but if you are the sharing sort, you can do so simply by taking your card out of your smart phone and putting it in your friend's phone. It's that simple.

As you can see, it can be quite helpful to have a microSD card in your pocket if you own a smart phone and are a fan of gaming. If you want to take things a step farther, though, you should not forget to look into some of the additional accessories such as a case or a screen protector. These will keep your phone ticking for a longer time, which will allow you to get your gaming on with fewer interruptions.
