Watch television shows and movies in German. You can have the subtitles turned on when you first start watching German movies. After you become acquainted with the language you can switch off the subtitles. You will find that you comprehend more than you thought you would. Watching German TV and movies is a fabulous option for learning a language as it is being spoken today. Classroom learning often teaches the formal version of the language and not the language as it is being spoken every day (books aren't capable of this, as the spoken language is changing on a daily basis). Movies and television shows will permit you to comprehend up-to-date slang and various cultural things that you otherwise wouldn't learn in a classroom setting or by taking an individual course.

Is there a local neighborhood where most of the people speak German? Going to a town like that and spending time there may help you a lot. You will find that this is a great way to immerse yourself with other German speakers while keeping close to home in case you feel too much like a fish out of water. It's great to go to these types of towns because the German spoken there will be the same as if you were to go to Germany or anywhere else German is the primary language. There is a vast difference between text book German and the German you'll encounter on your travels to Germany. Learning to speak it in a non-formal setting will help you feel better if you are ever end up visiting a German speaking country.

It does not have to be difficult to learn German. You will find plenty of ideas for making the process more easy for you. The trick is figuring out your own learning style and then choosing a method that fits that. This can unfortunately take quite a bit of time to discover.
