The Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo is the newest touch smartphone to hit the market and is packed many of the latest features we've come to expect from the Ericsson brand. The latest model in the Xperia range looks set to build on the success of the X1 and X2 in international markets. While the X1 suffered problems running from its Windows Mobile 6.1 platform the Xperia Neo looks set to host a powerful new Android 2.3 gingerbread operating system.
Retaining many of the features that made the X1 a great phone the Neo looks set to hold on to its QWERTY keyboard but bring in a variety of new features including a brand new 1GHz Snapdragon processor and 320mb of internal storage with the capacity to support Micro SD cards.
Available in a range of colours including navy blue, silver and red with a stylish ergonomic design the Sony handset will remain remarkably light for a smartphone and feature an arched back allowing it to rest comfortably in the user's hand, being built by Sony the handset is also of remarkable quality.
Multimedia funtinonality is definitely the cornerstione of the Neo's design with the inclusion of a built in HDMI output at the top of the phone. The output allows you export sound, images and video to other devices which means you can watch home videos on you HD TV or show off you best photographs to friends.
More than this the Neo also offer a comparatively excellent 8.1 megapixel rear mounted camera with flash employing Sony's Exmor R technology which operates particularly well in low light levels for all those party pics, the camera also offers video recording. Add to this a 2 megapixel front facing camera for photos and video calling functions.
The new Xperia supports a good variety of networks including HSPA and Wi-Fi. The handset sports a 3.7 inch touch screen using a Mobile BRAVIA Engine to offer a crisp, clear image with its 854 x 480 resolution rate.
There are quite a few new releases expected in the Xperia range including the Play and the Pro. The Sony Ericsson Xperia Play will be similar in many respects to the Neo but will omit the QWERTY keyboard in favour of the touch screen. The Pro will also have a keyboard be very much focused on media messaging with a host of intuitive messaging features even removing the need to open a dedicated messaging application.
The Sony Ericcson handset looks more than capable of competing with the LG Optimus 2X, Motorola Olympus and the HTC 7 Pro, just a few of its future competitors in the high spec smartphone market this year.
