By Maximilia Haida

It does seem indeed that half the world has a cell phone with tons of features. Through the spending of huge sums of money on branding, competitors seek to differentiate their products in the eyes of the consumer. One result is that talking of one's cell phone has become almost an obsolete practice. Calling it, for example, my Blackberry - or other brand name - is much the common practice. And that brings us to the product we are reviewing today, the Blackberry Storm 9530. Having a camera-feature included in a cell phone is almost standard these days. It's therefore no surprise that the Blackberry Storm 9530 does so, delivering a resolution of slighty more than 3 megapixels. But what we really want to tell you about are the many other features that the 9530 offers.

Indeed, the Blackberry 9530 comes with an array of useful features. Top of the list is a GPS system which uses what are called Blackberry maps. For this, it seems pretty certain that they simply purchased a standard licence for a GPS database and then affixed their name to it. The media player which comes with this Blackberry offers the ability to play three popular file formats: MP3, AAC+ and WMA. The video player allows for viewing movies in MPEG4 format as well as WMV. As mentioned before, the camera delivers resolution of over 3 MP, and it also has an automatic focus feature. Videos can be recorded as well as played, and brightness can be increased by using the LED flash.

Touch screen technology is used for the Storm 9530's communications interface. The editor allows you to compile documents as well as providing all the now standard features of text messaging. The 9530 has integrated Bluetooth technology for wireless ability and listening to WiFi music. The Storm was the first to introduce the first touchscreen that was able to be clicked. This was a deliberate attempt to help people feel more comfortable. It was supposed to mimic certain actions of a regular keyboard. Amongst other features that it supports, the 9530 lets you interact with a number of applications using single and multi-touch.

You are not confined to just Blackberry branded services, but can for instance get GPS ability via Verizon Wireless. This is a huge plus for people who may go to several countries around the world. The regular internal memory of 1 gig may be enhanced considerably, up to a maximum of 16 gig. Nowadays most of us have several email accounts, and a nice feature is that you can have up to ten, whether for business or private use. We are all aware of how much people uses SMS, and there is an assortment of instant messaging services available. The cell phone battery life for active service is 6 hours.

Even though the Blackberry 9530 cell phone is outdated, there is still a healthy market for certain consumers. Advances in cell phone technology come at a price, reflected in the higher cost of the latest models, and not everyone can bear that kind of expense. It's also true that a lot of consumers do not really want all of the latest features. What these people want is a simple, reliable phone that does the basics well. For this reason, consumers are able to buy older models which manufacturers have deemed worth the effort of restoring. There are a number of sites such as as ebay, buy.com and Amazon where you can inquire about the availabilty of older, renovated cell phone models.
