iPhone

By Jan Longbrake

The iPhone craze began in January 2007 when it was first introduced to the populace.Multiple features of the iPhone, such as its innate touch navigation, stylish form, incomparable display, and superior processing capabilities have made the iPhone a favorite among several consumer groups. Apple's COO, Tim Cook once said that the company was confident that it would sell 10 million iPhones by the end of 2008. In a recent research study, 70 percent of those who are currently using an iPhone, or want to buy one in the future, plan on using it for both business and personal features.

In the world of smart phones, the iPhone is one of only a great quantity of such devices. You can find smart phones made by every cell phone company under the sun. The hardware on all of these smart phones are relatively similar within their respective generations. A cursory glance at each smart phone will reveal that all of them contain the capacity to browse the internet, watch video, and are navigated via a touch screen. You would be very hard-pressed to find an iPhone user who would even give credence to the idea of switching to a smart phone from another manufacturer even though the technology is quite similar. To find out why the iPhone users are so loyal, we will dig deeper.

While the iPhone has many features that make it great, for the most part it is just a flashy PIM, or personal information manager. Even with all the technology included in the iPhone, it unfortunately does not support third party applications in the way that android users do. The iPhone is based on a personal data management system which makes it increasingly difficult to collaborate with a team on a single project.

While many other web browsing software claim to be tops, iPhone's Safari browser takes the cake. The integrated browser is two steps ahead of other browsers currently used in other handheld devices like Blazer, and the Blackberry browser. Many different browsers use the comparison to a desktop browser, but with Safari there is no comparison needed because of the obvious similarities. With these advancements in browsing technology, it is absolutely apparent as to how iPhone has taken the smart phone game to the next level.

The iPhone has the ability to connect to the web in two different ways, one being a data plan required by most cell phone carriers, and the other being Wi-Fi. Proficiency and ease of use with iPhone's web browsing and other internet features can generate a comfort level in those who are familiar with Apple's other computer products. The iPhone has one of the largest and highest resolution screens of any phone on the market, making it ideal for those looking for functionality and clarity.

Apple is now also coming of age in the business market, allowing for more business software and other types of devices catered toward a more professional market. In the past, Apple was heavily criticized by the media as being unfriendly to other businesses, and creating a rift in the ability for others to use the iPhone and other platforms for gain. With such a large focus put on the iPhone's business capabilities, it will only be a matter of time before we see the iPhone completely integrated into the modern business plan and practices.
