Green Phone - Special Phone That Is Friendly To Our Environment

By Thomas M. Keller

Cell phones are great devices. They store telephone numbers, can be GPS and useful for browsing. It is an essential part in ever man's life. Green phones have come into usage and are different from phones we normally use. And some differences are critical.

The environmental impact of mobile phones lasts a life time. Like any product that is manufactured, mobile phones contain components in thousands using different materials. With the ever increasing numbers coming to be used and with several billions in use the production of carbon dioxide is immense. Some calculation has been done to estimate and according to them the use of a mobile for about an hour every day throughout the year produces 1ton of carbon dioxide which is what a jetliner produces on a single flight from New York to London.

What benefits do we get if green mobiles are used in preference to the ones being used now?

Recycled materials are usually used in the manufacture of green mobiles. All aspects of the production are aimed at reducing the impact of their resource on virgin material.

Reuse of plastics up to a maximum of 6 times. Many of the eco friendly cell phones use recycled plastics in the range of 50% to 80%.

Green cell phones do not use chemical substances which are poisonous in nature. Flame retardants, PVC, mercury, cadmium, lead etc; are some of the items not used.

The software design for green mobile is such that less energy is required for its use, which is a great advantage. The charging of the battery is less frequent. The practice of leaving chargers on for a long time will come to an end and save considerable energy.

The cell phones now in use come in voluminous boxes filled with all sorts of materials suppose to prevent damage to phone. Green cell phone manufacturers are avoiding this practice and look to reduce the quantity of material and also recycled materials.
