Apple To Utilize The "Fun Theory"

By Chris Pringle

We have often heard about the saying, "Learn to like your work, and you will never have to work again." Makes a lot of sense, doesn't it? If you just adore what you are doing, then exactly what seems to be a boring career could become play, by just making it more fun. The problem is, several jobs and the things that all of us do in real life just isn't entertaining so some simple thoughts setting wouldn't have the desired effect. But now, Volkswagen is utilizing a philosophy as outdated as time and taking it to an entirely new stage. And it looks like other companies tend to be catching on.

It's called the "fun theory" plus some experiments have been done to verify this business philosophy, so easy, that even a 5 yr old can relate with. And it's so down to earth; it's very incredible that it has not been fully utilized, not up to now. The idea is to make monotonous tasks, activities or even products fun and it will change people's attitude toward it.

One experiment carried out was to install digital piano sounds at the stairs of your sub-way besides an escalator. When an individual steps on the flight of stairs, they can hear piano notes, and almost instantly people got interested. Before the actual experiment, there were approximately 10% - 12% of commuters picking the escalator but with only one day of the test, almost more than half of commuters wished to walk on the piano stairs. This means that when we put enjoyable into something, people's behaviour are usually changed for the better.

In the electronic digital and communication industry, there is hardly time for fun and jokes. Each company competing for the top area, executive making daily selections that could cost a company huge amounts of money, but product designers make it a point to put 'fun' in their products and also gadget. Ever wondered why RIM called their new pc tablet the Blackberry PlayBook? See, now you are receiving the idea, don't you?

And Apple and other market sectors related to Apple are going to follow this route of fun. Some people obtain iPhone insurance because it will cover their particular smartphone from theft, loss and even accidental damages, and they know it's beneficial. But might putting some form of fun directly into getting one thing already important such as insurance for iPhone increase people's awareness and sales even further?

Apple is planning to join the 'fun theory' mania as well, no doubt. So don't be blown away the next gen of Apple products, iPhone insurance, iPhone case, iPhone apps and designs etc. could have a hint of making you experience you are a kid once more.
