By Robert Woodruff

2015 will see the switch over for radio from FM to digital, in a similar way the digital TV switch over is currently happening. From this date you will no longer be able to listen to FM radio stations.

DAB radios are available now that will pick up these digital radio stations, but will also enable you to listen to FM radio stations. So you can get ready for the switch over without waiting to 2015.

DAB radios can be used in many different places in the home, in the car and even as a personal stereo whilst on the go out in the street. Depending on where you want to use the DAB radio there is one that will suit you.

Whether you want it to be powered by your electrical socket, or also have the option to use it with batteries to make it totally portable. You'll be able to listed to the crisp clear digital radio stations as well as still being able to listen to FM radio stations.

A DAB Radio is easy to set up. Just select the auto scan function and then the radio will search for all of the available digital radio stations. One completed you can begin listening to your favourite DAB radio stations and even use the preset facility to preset the ones that you listen to all the time, to make finding them easier.

If you own an iPod you may also want to consider getting a DAB radio that also has a dock that enables you to also play your iPod and charge it at the same time. This will play it through the DAB Radio speaker and some of them also come with a remote control so you can sit back relax and still control what your iPod plays.

Most DAB radios also have alarm functions and sleep functions enabling you to wake up and fall asleep to your favourite DAB radio station. All through stereo speakers or through headphone for private listening.

How do I choose which DAB radio to buy? Make a list of what functions you would like the DAB radio to have, even prioritise them. If portability is important to you then you'd need one that can run from batteries and that is easy to move from room to room. Do you need to connect your iPod? Review your list against DAB radios that are available and come up with a short list that matches your list of functions.
