By John Rock

It is no doubt that many people are using iphone. According to the Apple 2010 Q4 figures, there were around 73.7M iphone sold. With the heat of ipad, it already captures more than 3M fans. It should be a lot more than that after ipad2 launched, we can see many people queuing up again for this toy and the sales reached record high. Most importantly, people prefer stay connected to the internet everywhere and anywhere. Due to the huge number of user, the demand for iphone and ipad app is incredibly high. From a statistics, Apple has over 350,000 apps in apple store that have been downloaded over 10 billion times. And Apple has so far paid the iphone and ipad developers more than $2 billion! It is a world-wide, huge and rapidly growing market!

You may hear of an app called ifart. It is a simple app that a guy made which fart in different ways. This app lastly creates a great success and it gives him around $10000 a day! And in Christmas time, he made a record that his app gives him around $30000 a day! I think making iphone and ipad app is fun. Even that is not profitable; I still love to make that. However if this gives me a great chance to earn a part time income and even a fortune, I would be more than happy.

Before starting to make iphone app or make ipad app, I would have some suggestions for you:

1) Who are your targeted customers? For example, you would like to make an app for teens killing time? Or you possess some of the expertise and would like to provide some information via the app? The starting point is to do some market research for your app.

2) The equipment needed for making iphone and ipad app is a Mac machine. It is a intel CPU and on Leopard version of OS X. There are some people use virtual machine software on Windows PC for development. This might be an alternative approach if you do not have much budget to add more equipment. In addition, you should download the SDK (software development kit) and join the iphone developer program which costs $99.

3) Object C programming knowledge. Do we have to be an expert in programing to make a successful app? There may not be a must and we can do it a creative way. For example, we can outsource the programing parts. There are some good outsource networks out there such as Odesk. Yet I suggest you should at least know the basic of the C programming and know the overall concept. Otherwise, you will not manage the project well for sure.

4) Promote and market the app after completion. It is very important because this will help you stand out from other competition. For instance, you may use some social media such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube to do a viral marketing for your app. Without this, you app may just sit there and no one download that. Once you got tactics to make your app famous, you will be receiving great residual income!
