Works The Way I Anticipated - Universal Car Mount For Cell Phone Review

By Sarah Sanders

I needed a mount to replace the proprietary mount for my GPS, so I could mount my dinc2, and it works. Haven't tried the vent clips, but the window mount sticks well and hasn't fallen off. This works well for the iPhone 4 in my BMW e46 vent. It's easy to install.

One thing I was wondering about prior to purchasing was how the release function operated. The way it works is when you want to put your phone/GPS in the mount; you make sure it's released (by pressing the release button). However I prefer this mount as I don't have to take the case off of the phone to use it and it will mount to the cars vent. I have a suction cup plate on the dash but I am a little afraid of it coming off and the phone hitting something in the car that will crack the screen.

I have only used the vent mount. It works better than expected. Overall I've been able to adjust and orient this mount into 2 separate vehicles with success, and it's a perfect substitute for the $40 OEM car mount that's less expensive and more versatile. This works much better than many of the others I have tried and at Pros: High quality material. The swivel ball is also poorly designed. When mounted in a vent, which notoriously won't be very close to you, the mount will not allow the phone so swivel left/right far enough to have a clear direct view of the device.

Since the grips slide in to hold your phone, it will hold a phone with a skin/case on it with you having to remove the skin/case. The plastic button you push to release the grips feels weak, but it has not yet broken on me yet and I have used it heavily since purchasing last week.

It was a little bulky. I did not try the sticky dash mount, or the seemingly flimsy vent mount. First generation Droid is a different size than my X, so beware. However with this product you don't have to worry about sizes since it is adjustable and well cushioned.

Usually they break really fast, while this one is struggling and the right arm sometimes does not move. It's still working just fine.

Can turn phone to landscape view by just turning while in the mount. It doesn't bounce too much while driving. The plastic on the mount is a little weak but it does its job. I've had it for over 2 months and it works completely fine with no problems. No problems with the charger adapter which goes into the bottom of my Nexus One. The vent mount is the only weakness in the product as the two provided clips, which are adjustable laterally to fit most vents, are not tight enough to hold the mount stationary. This mount works great with my phone (An LG Optimus V Droid phone.) All the configurations work well. Used the air-vent clamps and then took the plunge and used the suction mount on the windshield of my car.
