Allays My Concerns - Phone Car Mount Review

By Michael Griffin

Since the grips slide in to hold your phone, it will hold a phone with a skin/case on it with you having to remove the skin/case. The plastic button you push to release the grips feels weak, but it has not yet broken on me yet and I have used it heavily since purchasing last week. It's a pleasure to have in the car. One note about my review: I've only used the windshield mount, never the dashboard nor the vent mount. I have since found that the microphone on the Evo is on the bottom of the phone, and the position of the feet can block the microphone opening. If you slide the feet to a certain position, you can open the microphone and the voice control works much better.

Also if I decide to change phones I do not have to buy a new mount. I just can't charge it because the clamps cover the outlet. I only knocked off a star for the vent mount problems but it is a very well-made product that has excellent value. Drive safe everyone! After that, the mount was pretty useless. Since I want something that I can remove in the future without disfiguring anything, this car dock failed the test of time.

Occasionally the screwed part on the back does not hold the phone up and it tilts forward. However, it generally works fine. I used it several times without any problems. Easy to use and adjust.

Other than that, great product I use this case with my EVO. I have it clipped to my vent and I have not had a problem with it yet.

The kit also fits my girlfriend's iPhone, so rest assured it's adjustable for a number of shapes. If you're planning to use the vent clip, beware that this is a fairly heavy stand, and that the vent attachment is less universal than the other mount options.

It fits my 2009 Toyota Highlander. The cons listed above are minor. Again in just 3 months' time it has become apparent that, when sunlight heats up the adhesive and it has the weight of my phone on the mount, the adhesive just doesn't hold. The entire mount and mounting pad has come off my dash once and fallen in the floor. If you take your phone in/out of the holder frequently, the spring load mechanism may break - mine broke after approximately 2 months of usage. When things normally break, I give them a 1 star - but given the low price when compared to others, it still deserves credit. I used to have an original droid and I was disappointed to find that there isn't an "exact fit" cradle for the Incredible like the one I had for the droid, but the "squeeze style" cradle is functional, if a bit unwieldy. It holds the phone fine, but it looks a little outsized and unfit up there on the window. Overall it is a worthwhile purchase. Inexpensive, functional, and it definitely can work with a smart phone with a case on.
