MX iTunes, App Store, iBookstore, and Mac App Store

By Jim Speltman

I came across a post on an Internet forum recently that really made the hair on my neck stand up. Some jerk was saying that any website which purveyed jailbreak software was a criminal enterprise and was just out to take your money. He went even further and intimated that if they did give you software to crack your iPhone, it would just be junk and wouldn't work.

I'd like to respond to that with this special bulletin. As a professional who's been using this type of software for years, I hate to hear this kind of garbage being spewed. Look - in order to crack an iPhone manually, without any type of software, you have to dig through every line of code in the iPhones IOS. This would be like trying to crack Windows 7. Would you be able to do it? Do you know how many lines of code there are? We're talking hundreds of millions of lines. It's simply not possible for an individual to do this. Teams of hackers toil for months, working 12 hour days, to come up with a crack so that they can put together automated cracking software. Now, millions of people around the world have cracked iPhones. Do you seriously think that they worked 12 hour days, with a team of hackers, to figure out a manual crack? Is everyone with a cracked iPhone a hacking wizard?

Or do you think that it's more likely that they are paying for jailbreak software and cracking their iDevice automatically?

Now, if people really are using software to unlock their iPhones the easy way, then where are they downloading the programs that allow them to do this? Does it fall out of the sky like rain? Do you buy it at Walmart? Does Jesus H. Christ himself install it on your computer for you? Or is it more likely that people are purchasing it online?

Alright, I hope that made sense. I'll now move forward to my second point: Each website offering programs for hacking is happy to accept Paypal. Paypal exists to make sure that you don't get conned. If you purchase something online with Paypal, and the vendor takes your cash or sends you merchandise or software that does not meet your demands, then you can get your money back through Paypal in less than 24 hours - no questions asked. If these websites were conning people, then every person that they stole money from would be getting refunds, and the webpages would not make a profit. So, as you can see, they possess no reason to con their customers.

Get it? So you know that these sites are legit. No ifs, ands, or buts.
